Types of Liposuction
PureLipo™ BodySculpting
PureLipo™ is a safe and effective procedure using tumescent fluid for greater body sculpting results with less side effects than traditional liposuction. A very small cannula is inserted in tiny incisions allowing precise amounts of fat to be removed from any area of the body. The tumescent fluid anesthetizes the area being removed, so there is no need for general anesthesia. The combination of the above allows for minimal bruising, less downtime, no need for general anesthesia or surgical rooms, greater skin tightening, and no stitches, typically providing a much quicker and less painful recovery.

Smartlipo™ Laser BodySculpting
Smartlipo™ is a liposuction procedure that will melt away deposits of fat with a heated cannula. Smartlipo™ is an in-office procedure and is performed under a local anesthetic. Patients will generally walk out of the procedure under their own power and be back to normal daily routines within 1 to 2 days. Much like PureLipo™, Smartlipo™ uses smaller cannulas to minimize side effects. The difference is in the technique, as PureLipo™ allows for the finesse of the trained physician to shine through in superior body sculpting.
Traditional Liposuction
Liposuction is the removal of unwanted areas of fat using cannulas (straw-like suction tubes) that are placed into the body fat through small incisions. A vacuum is applied through a hose attached to the cannula. This draws fat out of the body. Traditional liposuction is typically performed in an operating room under general anesthesia. Larger instruments are used to speed the removal of fat. As a result, irregularities are more frequent and the skin can end up being loose and stretched-out. Traditional liposuction is generally more costly and has higher risks associated with the procedure and recovery.
Tumescent Liposuction
With tumescent liposuction, a large volume of saline solution containing very dilute amounts of a local anesthetic, are injected into the fatty tissue. The fat is then removed through a small cannula inserted into the skin. After tumescent liposuction procedures, many patients may get up and walk out of the office without assistance. Most patients are usually back to their regular routine in a couple of days. The PureLipo™ procedure used at The Center for Positive Aging is a form of tumescent liposuction.
Vaser LipoSelection
Vaser LipoSelection uses ultrasound energy to break down the fat cells before they are removed. These ultrasound waves are transmitted through small probes located on the cannula. This causes less injury to the surrounding tissues than traditional liposuction.
Vaser offers several benefits over traditional liposuction, yet there are some drawbacks to this procedure. There can be noticeable scars left at the incision site. Other drawbacks include pain and numbness in the treated area, a waiting period of up to six months to see complete results, and a risk of seroma and/or inflammation.
Other Types of Laser Assisted Liposuction
There are many forms of laser-assisted liposuction including CoolLipo, ProLipo, LipoLite, LipoTherme, and others. Dr. Bowen chose PureLipo™ due to the extensive training, superior results, minimal side effects, lower cost to the patient, and safety.
